Becoming a Client

Introductory Call:

When you call our office, a team member will gather information to determine the legal services you require and will schedule a complimentary consultation at our office.  Alternatively, if you wish to view available appointments and self-schedule, this option is accessible on our website under “Schedule A Consultation”.

We request that you complete and submit our questionnaire which we will provide to you prior to your initial appointment. This will provide us with the essential information needed to ensure our meeting is as effective as possible and to accurately evaluate your situation and address your concerns.

Your Initial Visit:

Wills and Trusts Planning: In this consultation, we will dedicate time to evaluate your estate needs, understand your family dynamics, and your assets, while informing you about different estate planning alternatives. This will help us identify the plan that best fits your specific family requirements. We will also take the time to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of establishing a Trust and other legal instruments.

Durable Powers of Attorney and Healthcare Directives: Our team believes that these documents are crucial to any estate plan. A consultation to acquire a power of attorney document will encompass guidance on the use of these documents and the meticulous selection of qualified agents.

Estate and Trust Administration: Dealing with paperwork and awaiting a probate court appointment can be overwhelming after the loss of a loved one. In this visit, we’ll gather information about the decedent and his/her family and evaluate the assets to determine if summary probate proceedings are an option or if full probate is necessary. We will explain the general timeline and procedures, and we’ll guide you to be as involved in the process as you prefer.

Special Needs Planning: Our firm is passionate about assisting families with adults and children who have special needs. In the initial visit, we will address your family’s goals and concerns regarding planning for your loved ones. We will also provide guidance on how to safeguard any legacy you wish to leave for their care without affecting any government benefits they may receive due to their disability.

Guardianship: Our firm is fully prepared to represent you in guardianship proceedings before the Court of Chancery for the State of Delaware. We assist with personal and property guardianships for adults, as well as property guardianships for minors. In this consultation, we will inform you about the guardianship procedure, outline the necessary steps, and determine if guardianship is the most suitable option for safeguarding your loved one.

Business: During this consultation, we will take the time to understand you, your business, and both your personal and business goals and objectives. We will explore the options available to achieve your goals, whether it involves formation, consultation, transactions, succession planning, or other business necessities.

During All First Appointments: We are committed to being upfront about legal costs. Our flat-fee billing approach for estate planning guarantees transparency and eliminates unexpected charges. It fosters open communication between the lawyer and client and allows clients to anticipate the costs associated with their personalized plan. Additionally, we can offer estimates for all matters billed on an hourly basis.

Scheduled Next Steps: At the end of all initial appointments, we schedule your next visit to ensure you know when you will meet with us again, establishing clear directives and communication. Should you need to reschedule, please call our office or adjust your appointment online.

After Your Initial Visit:

Following your initial appointment, an engagement letter will be provided for you to sign and return. We typically send all correspondence electronically and accept electronic signatures on engagement letters, unless the client finds this method inconvenient.

Once hired, we will execute the plan established in the initial meeting. You will receive information about subsequent steps and the timeline concerning your legal matter, and our team will be available to support you throughout the process.
